This feature-length documentary funded by CBC follows the fascinating life story of the multi-talented Jules Sherred. Jules is an outspoken advocate for disability and trans rights, a commercial food photographer, a recipe developer, author of the cookbook Crip Up The Kitchen, and most recently an award-winning bodybuilder about to celebrate his 50th birthday. Jules shares his trans and disabled perspective along his journey to train and compete in an upcoming bodybuilding competition against his cisgender peers.

"Kintsugi: The Art of Repair"

From her studio in Vancouver, B.C., Naoko Fukumaru practices kintsugi, the 500 year-old Japanese art form of mending broken ceramics and highlighting imperfection using gold powder. Fukumaru’s life was transformed by the kintsugi philosophy of celebrating the beauty of brokenness and she invites viewers to embrace their own flaws and vulnerabilities. Fukumaru demonstrates the six stages of kintsugi, which include reassembling, filling, sanding, applying lacquer and gold powdering. Fukumaru demonstrates that embracing and highlighting imperfection can create a new type of unique beauty. This film was screened at The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria’s “Beauty of Mending” Exhibit from November 2024 to May 2025.

She’s passionate about crafting beautiful handmade objects that inspire wonder and a sense of curiosity, incorporating ashes and nature in unique ways to showcase glass as both a vessel and a window.
